Dear Traci,
The news that you are going to resume the Balancing Life's Demands Conference at Callaway Gardens is an answer to prayer. For several years, I was able to attend the conference each fall. It was always an oasis in the busy-ness of life, a time to fellowship with women of faith, a respite from the cares of the world. When the conference was discontinued, it left me feeling lost. That time each fall had become an anchor in my life that I anticipated eagerly. I couldn't imagine going into the busy and stressful holiday season without first having those few days of retreat and restoration.
There is much to be said for the fellowship that women experience in a setting like that. We don't necessarily come from the same denominations; our creeds may differ, but we love and serve the same God in our own individual ways. Somehow I'm convinced that ladies need that time more than our brothers in Christ.
The fall retreat in 2001 had a significant impact on my life, for it was there that the Lord spoke so clearly about
the changes He had for my life. In His infinite mercy, God let me know without a doubt that He would be with us as my husband undertook a journey that would truly change our lives forever. Running for governor of our state had never been in our plans, but God directed us to do just that. Throughout the campaign, election, inauguration and the years that have followed, God's presence has been affirmed repeatedly. Each fall as I have returned to the conference, I have personally been uplifted by literally hundreds of my sisters in Christ. I've drawn strength from their prayers and encouragement in an arena void of political interests. Through times of turmoil and persection, both personal and public, the thoughts of the retreat on the horizon have enabled me to persevere.
It was always evident to me that your heart and soul were firmly planted in ministry to women. I can think of no better person to undertake this revitalization than you. Your servant's spirit, grace, and love for our Lord shine forth in abundance. Like so many other ladies across our state, I am gleefully awaiting a new Balancing Life's Demands Conference to sustain me through the days ahead. Thank you for your vision!
With Christ's Love,
